Duane Bailey-Castro, Grade 6 Social Studies Teacher and Upper Division Leadership Initiatives Coordinator, was selected to join the NYSAIS Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) cohort for 2019-2021.
The ELI cohort will engage in an extensive series of retreats, workshops, and collaborations over the course of two years, serving on an accreditation committee at another NYSAIS school and ultimately pursuing an independent leadership project.
“In addition to guidance from a mentor, the program’s retreats and workshops provide opportunities to network and brainstorm with professionals from across the city and beyond,” said Mr. Bailey-Castro, who also teaches a photography class for grades 5-8. “This is an important reminder that while we are members of our school community, we are also part of a larger community of educators all dedicated to inspiring and educating children to become their best selves.”
Mr. Bailey-Castro has been a member of the faculty since 2009. He earned his master’s degree from Teachers College Columbia University, and before that an M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from The University of Chicago.
