The two fourth grade founders of our newly formed Earth Club shared their passion and concerns for global imbalance in Chapel today. Katie Behrmann, upper division science teacher and advisor to the Earth Club, highlighted ways the student body can help.
One idea was to plan a bake sale to raise money for an organization that addresses the students' concerns. The Earth Club presented three options: helping marine wildlife through the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA), helping abused animals through the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), or helping children through UNICEF.
The Earth Club produced an engaging and informative video outlining some of the issues they felt like needed attention, like communities in poverty, animal abuse, poaching, and recycling. They hope that their video will inspire awareness and encourage positive change.
In a very serious secret vote with heads bowed and hands raised, and with great enthusiasm the ASPCA was chosen to receive the proceeds from their upcoming bake sale.
