Grade 7
In seventh grade, students begin to prepare in earnest for the world beyond St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s. By this age, all of the study skills and foundational work students have undertaken in their academic subjects come to bear. Our seventh graders are able and eager to explore their materials deeply and analytically, to express themselves cogently and coherently, and to act as leaders in the school community.
Latin is introduced in seventh grade, and our students embrace the challenge of studying this ancient language, which deepens their understanding of their everyday English. Latin is very much like a puzzle, and as students learn to decode it, they will hone important problem-solving and analytical skills, which serves them well in all their studies.
Global studies is another new feature of the curriculum in seventh grade, which builds on their study of early American history. The global studies curriculum makes dedicated time each week to focus on the current events that shape our world. Students identify themselves as citizens as well as historians, and their exploration of the events of today help them to understand the events of the past.
