Alumna Nicole Johnson describes what she loves about her new role as Lower Division Director, “It’s inspiring to be able to give back to a place that was always such a place of comfort and joy for me.” Nicole has always been passionate about the transforming power of education, and she views it as even more critical in this moment. Nicole reflects, “We’re in a world where education has been completely turned on its head, yet never been more important.” During this unique fall, Nicole has found it motivating to help faculty and students adapt to this new world and to find solutions to make in-person learning possible.
With a degree in education from Teachers College, Columbia University, Nicole previously worked as a third grade teacher and member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership team at St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s. Working at SHSH feels like returning “home” for Nicole. It's been moving to see the long-standing traditions that were such an important part of her student experience, while also witnessing all the ways the school has continued to evolve, from the physical space to the curriculum. Nicole says, “I’m very proud of how SHSH has stayed true to its core, and also how it has evolved – how we live our mission in a modern way.”
